| "I feel wonderful now after fatmanslim, fitter and tidier and people
really notice the difference, which is nice. Not bad to say I was quite
sceptical to start with!" |
|
| I started the fatmanslim programme after a recommendation from a friend
(who is actually Mick, one of the other case studies shown here). We were
basically both stuck in the same weight loop. Over many years we had both tried
diets which worked for a few weeks but the weight always came back, normally
with interest! The temptation was to put my size down to my age and tell myself
that it was normal, but if Mick was managing to do something about it I was not
going to be left out. I was getting a bit fed up of him telling me how well he
was doing! Anyway, by the end of week 12 I had lost 35lbs, going from 17stones
down to 14stones 7lbs. I have subtly changed my lifestyle over the 12 weeks
of fatmanslim and I think this means that more weight and waist loss is on the
way, here is a bit about my progress: |
| My problem was that most of my social life involved food, meals out with
friends, a social gathering with buffet or friends round for a takeaway and a
simple drink normally finished with cheese, pate and a sweet. Food at work was
chosen for convenience and under stress the temptation was to treat myself to
something sweet. Exercise had reduced to almost zero over time due to temporary
health problems (hernia, tennis elbow, strained shoulder) to the point where I
had convinced myself that God was trying to tell me something. |
| I had watched my weight grow steadily over the years until I was 17stones and
rising. I was constantly uncomfortable with my appearance and having to buy
larger clothes. I liked the concept of fatmanslim because it told it the way it was, if
you weren't ready to lose weight put it aside until you are. I was ready. |
| Although I knew what I was doing wrong I was unable to break the cycle. FMS
gave me the tools to manage my eating without feeling hungry and over eating. I
still enjoy meals out and takeaways and can go to a party with a buffet, the
difference is that I can now take control of what I eat and balance where
necessary with food intake and exercise at a later time. I take pride in being
in control even if the compensation is spread over a week. |
| I increased my weight slightly over last Christmas week and ate most things that
were put in front of me and really enjoyed it but I compensated with exercise
and selective eating over the next week and almost maintained the weight I
started with before Christmas. This was as I had planned but having said that I
am delighted to have been able to achieve it. My trousers are looking like they
belong to another person! |
| I have now broken the 15 stones barrier and who knows, now that I know what to
do, I may achieve the weight I was when I was fit and playing rugby 3 times a
week which was 13st 7lb. That is my secret target and, although I put no
timescale on it, I wouldn't bet against it. |
